My baby Nate turned 8 years old today. Where does the time go?

He is growing into a young man before our very eyes. We wish him the best and what a better way to celebrate birthday then with a rack of ribs:) I am sure they can gobble up that slab in no time.

(That is why boys are growing they eat more and MORE)

Sunday Reflections

Christmas, the Story of God becoming the Man, Jesus, is the only hope we have of returning back to God. We must lean into the truth of God's love displayed in Jesus' coming. Our fall into depravity and alienation was because our confidence in the kindness and love of God was shaken. We doubted and doubt the love of God. Our recovery must begin with the belief of His love; "this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins (I Jn. 4:10)."

Relaxing in book store

One of our favorite places to go as a family is the bookstore. We have been blessed with children who have a love for books as their parents and grandparents. Then again you should see all the books we have around the house. Since the space in our house is limited we visit bookstores and the library quite regularly. Jo still has a short attention spam when it comes to reading but she still loves looking at books.

This is Jo's version of "smile". She is such a joker.

She loves playing with trains. I remember when we use to come with to boys to play with 'Thomas the tank engine'.

Nate and Jo busy pushing every button they could get their fingers on.

I finally found Sam in a corner with a book.

THE YEAR 1909

This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!
The year is 1909.
One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1909 :

The average life expectancy was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles Of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average wage in 1909 was 22 cents per hour.
The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year ..

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,
A dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .
Ninety percent of all doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which Were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard. '
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.

Archery lessons

The boys have been taking archery lessons for the last four weeks. Yesterday was their last lesson so I went with them this time (since it was mainly a boys and dad thing) to take "few" pictures. There were so many rules that I was scared to walk around and take pictures so keep that in mind if you are wondering why all the pictures are of the boys backs.

This is Sam carrying his arrows back. I was shocked when I watched the whole group listening to their teacher who was only whistling. One whistle step forward, two whistles get ready, three shoot ... etc. (I am thinking asking Santa for a whistle:).

Anyway I was very impressed. The boys did a great job. I would not be able to hit the target at all.
