Spring Cleaning - Fabric closet

I wish I had a fabric closet. However, I do have a craft corner down in the basement with a closet that is full of .... well stuff. A big part of it is fabric. Once in a while it hits me and I want to organize that corner of mine. It works for a while and then the kids ask for something and it looks like Fil would say 'organized chaos'.

Anyway I got spring fever the other day (which is funny since it was snowing outside AGAIN and we have not seen the grass in our yard since December). As I was looking what kind of fabric I have down there I started a few projects. I made this fun spring quilt. It is not done yet I need the batting and to put it all together. I had so much fun. It has been a while since I made a quilt. I believe my last one was for Emma few years back. I did not follow any patterns It was just using scraps of fabric in my closet. I also made a few bugs that are a big hit with the kids. Well the girls love them and the boys requested ones with 'boys' fabric.

I got a book by Amy Butler with sewing patterns for Christmas from the kids and I am finally getting around to trying some of them out.

As you can see the girls had to turn the butterflies into accessories.

I sure hope the spring will come SOON up here!

Doll quilts

Do you remember back in July when I made a quilt for Emma and a little quilt for her doll with the left over fabric? Well I liked the idea a lot and since Emma had so much fun playing with the little quilt and her dolls I pulled out my box with leftover fabric squares from previous quilting projects. I never really knew what to do with the odds and ends but I know now. You can see that I had a fun making more doll quilts and Emma loves playing with them all. It took me only few hours to put them together since I already had the squares ready. I just had to sew them together. I made a quilt for Nate with this fabric.
As you can see these blocks are in Sam's quilt (maybe in a different order but you get the idea).
This was I believe a gift for someone from our church.
And these two are backs from the baby quilts.

Quilt

I finally finished a quilt for Emma. I have to admit that it took a long time to do it. She is almost 2.

Ladies from our mother church in Concord held a baby shower for me after Emma was born. Since I already had everything I needed I asked for a gift certificate to a quilting store. I ordered all the fabric a long time ago but did not get around to it until this year. As you can see it is done and it looks great. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO CONTRIBUTED FOR THIS GENEROUS GIFT. I even had enough left over fabric to make a quilt for Emma's doll.

I learned to quilt in Denver Colorado with my friend from church and I have made a few quilts since. It is always so rewarding at the end to see it all come together.

I made quilts for all of our kids so I better get started on another one.
