Weekend at the Cape

Last weekend our family spend the weekend on Cape Cod. We were all looking forward to this trip for some time and we couldn't have picked a better time to go. With rain before and after we sure did enjoy plenty of sun and vitamin D.

As you can see the kids made it into the water. It was a high tide so they didn't have to walk a mile out to get wet.

 The next day we planned on spending the entire day at the beach. By noon most of us had too much sun. The wind picked up in the afternoon and the sand was blowing all over the place (and it hurt). We still had a good time looking for sea creatures and building all sorts of sandcastles. The next day we knew we couldn't handle another day at the beach so we planned a bike trip to local ice cream shop.

 After a nice lunch at the campground we headed out for a hike at Nickerson State Park. It was a nice walk around some of the lakes. Next time we will have to bring swimsuits with us.

We had another lovely time on Cape Cod and we are looking forward to our next trip.

Cape Cod in September

We took our last camping trip of the season. We couldn't wait to go back to Cape Cod and enjoy its beaches and bike trails.

The kids enjoyed chasing crabs all over the beach.

We were blessed with beautiful weather and headed for the beach right a way.

The next day we took a little trip up the coast to see the famous Coast Guard Beach (voted one of 10 most beatiful beaches in the USA) to see what the big fuss was about.

We were not able to park there but ended up driving a little bit up the coast and then went on about a mile long walk on the beach.

It was another beautiful day on the Cape.

The kids picked up tons of seashells and rocks to take home.

We even did some geocaching on the Cape but it was all done while we were biking so no pictures. We officially haul 6 bikes everywhere we go. Jo made her first biking trip with us riding a bike all by herself. She did 4 miles without any complaing (I am sure the promise of ice cream at the end of the trip helped a little).
We are sad to say good bye to summer but we are looking forward to what God has in store for is in the fall :)

Cape Cod (Part III.)

For our last full day on Cape Cod we headed to Skaket Beach in Orleans. With the sun visible in the sky it looked like a promising day and it was. First of all let me tell you that we have visited our share of beaches in New England. When we pulled into the parking lot of this beach Fil and I looked at each other in amazement. Our first words were,"wow". Followed by Fil's statement that now he will never get me away from New England. We just stood there in the parking lot with our mouths hanging open. We had no clue beaches like this existed in New England. At that point we knew what the big fuss was about Cape Cod.

 We found a spot for all of our beach "stuff" close to the shore and went to explore. I am saying explore because it was low tide and we could barely see the waves. You see, you can walk out to the ocean almost one mile out at low tide!!!

 These pictures were taken about half way between the shore and the water. The kids had a blast running and looking for critters in little tide pools. When we finally made it to the main water I was shocked how warm it was. The boys and Fil got in and enjoyed the ocean in New England in May!!!

 We slowly made it back to the shore and were we watched the tide move in throughout the day. I do not have more pictures from that beach because I was just soaking it all in. To say that the kids had a blast is an understatement. They loved looking for crabs etc.  

 After a long day at the beach and a yummy dinner at the camp we headed out for some good New England ice cream.

 And we ended the day with a big fire and good German beer. The beer was for adults not the kids just in case you were wondering.

 We had a great time on Cape Cod and we cannot wait to go back!

Cape Cod (Part II.)

On our second day on the Cape we explored the peninsula a little bit. The goal was to make it all the way to the tip of the Cape. However, we ran out of time. We had a lovely day despite the misty weather most of the day.

After visiting the famous Cape Cod Chip factory (no pictures) and armed with free samples of potato chips we made it to the little town of Chatham. The kids loved watching boats coming in with their catch of the day at a fish pier.

 We saw tons of clams.

 Lots of seagulls and plenty of seals playing in the water.

 We also enjoyed a nice walk through downtown Chatham with its little shops and restaurants.

 On the way back to the camp we stopped at the Chatham Coast Guard Lighthouse. We made it there at high tide and there was still no sun insight. That didn't stop my kids from at least partially getting wet.

 Can you see the outer banks in the back on the pictures? You can walk there in low tide but more about that in a next post.
